  3. Oh yes, A Kestrel for a Knave is essential reading, although I think of it as a rite of passage book, similar to To Kill a Mocking Bird and Emma. If it hasn’t been read as a teenager I wonder whether it has the same disruptive impact. Are there other books that need to be read at certain transition times in our lives?
